When Vaughan & I played he wanted rouse a really cheesey mess character star which cost around 19k in BV2.
I ended up with 9 mechs versus his 5. While this made for a good game, not everyone is as casual about going against a Daishi C with a 1/2 pilot:)
I'd suggest you play around 15k for a decent game.

if you wanted to use a full star you would be looking around the 15k mark. May be 18-20k if you wanted an assault star. Up to you mate, i'll match what ever you want to use

right now i cant confirm anything, i havn't got any of my tech stuff with me, but i warn you, from what i can remember i'll get about 2 full stars for 15k.

hi mozza i had an idea about our game. we could do it in 1 of 2 ways either our game continues straight after the first one so no repairs to mechs already fielded and i need to get my three surviving mechs the full lenght of the table to the drop ship while my binary gives covering fire, or the battle takes place a couple of days later so all mechs can have used repair bays and my binary advances out to stop your forces reaching the dropship.

just to let you know we use BV2 points values now so things work out more expensive in some cases alot more expensive. BV2 can be downloaded from the HMP web site.

I'll bring up the dropshop & we'll have to try and make the table look like a disused spaceport or something. Maybe not a spaceport, but a wilderness landing with plenty of tree and hills and stuff?
