The confederate advance continued through the Keswick area and once again the Rebs found themselves at Keswick Halt the somewhat famed rail depot now in union hands, this rail depot had become quiet important to the Union army and as such new units had been moved into the area unbeknown to the Reb commander.
So with great gusto and banners waving in the morning sun the Ragged Rebs advanced towards the rail depot, confident that their new junior officer corp would inspire the fresh recruits under his command, but the old sweat of a Reb commander knew better and with a wry smile urged his regiments forward.

Within the Union battle lines the fresh units piled forward as quickly as possible to deny the large Rebel regiments the room they needed to deploy into firing lines and executed some daring flank manoeuvres whilst the centre regiments rushed to occupy the Keswick halt buildings, with both sides artillery batteries being almost useless in the confines of the fenced areas of Keswick, battery commanders after firing a couple of volleys become more or less bystander’s as their batteries watched the battle unfold before them.

On the left flank the 20th Maine and the 44th New York held a very stubborn battle line in the face of some withering Reb fire but their lines held whilst on their flank other union units rapidly deployed hemming the Reb’s in, and brought more fire to bear on the Reb line. Whilst on the right flank the union commander spotted that their was an opportunity for rapid advance and swiftly closed the gap with the Reb flank trying to force it back, but the rebel junior officer in commander fought like a bull terrier and would simply not let the line go, a credit to the confederacy.

Back on the Union left with their lines closed in and not being able to bring their firepower to bare, slowly the rebel line was beaten back by withering union fire and finally the Reb’s broke, seeing this the seasoned rebel commander ordered his men back from the assault, with some of their rear regiments intact the Reb’s withdrew under constant fire from all sides, however full credit to their overall commander as they did withdraw in fairly good order, dam a close run thing but a solid union performance gave a Union Victory! Once again the threat of succession is forestalled.
Overall some 8 game turns played and a game outcome achieved so well done lads, have to see how the second part goes.
