View Full Version : Project ACW 2007?
There has been much discussion between myself and Mr Onion as to a VERY LARGE acw game being held if possable next year proberly around the date of
the battle of Gettysburg ( for those of you who dont know this would be as close as possable to July 1-3...and if you didnt know that date then shame on you and i expect a 5000 word essay about gettysburg on my desk in the morning). Mr Onion has already submitted a "force list" that i have shown to Andy, the forces on it may well take us up to fielding some 2000 painted minatures! ( not each) now first question how many people are at this stage interested in playing in such an event (using iron brigade rules of course) ?

I shall attend as well.
Hopefully I can contribute a small force too. For the Union! Hurrah! :D

Perhaps you should consider doing Nathaniel Banks units - so we can call you Robin Banks!:D
Just kidding - the more the merrier - even if you do want to be a Yankee  (why?)
Nope, its because Alan complained that lots of people were doing the Confederates - so I thought I'd better even the score up! :)
Just thought i would bring this topic back online for all you ACW fans out there as july is only a few months away, it looks like the Sundays around this date are as follows
Sunday 1st July non club date
Sunday 8th July club date (provided we continue on a two week basis)
We realy need to find out who else is playing and how big this game maybe, so that we can look to see how much room we may need for this game, after all we do not want to hog the hall and tables and get in other peoples way and spoil their day, so ill ask around of all the players and see who is playing etc and what troops they may have for that day, minimum should be i feel a "small" brigade (3 regiments plus brigade officers etc) all painted and all based. Oh yes and who is playing on what side i know me and andy should have troops that we can use to fight for either side as required.
Fox1,
Do you want us to post here with what we hope to contribute to The Game? :)
Do you want us to post here with what we hope to contribute to The Game?
yes please that is a good idea :) as for myself i should have a full brigade of rebels or union (proberly 5 regiments each plus 1 artillery and cav plus brigade officers)
I'm planning on bringing 2 full Union brigades (10 regiments but as five are so small, condensed into eight instead) and a battery. All things going well that is!
I should be able to field either a full confederate brigade or a full union brigade by the time this event comes around both with artillery support, it has been suggested that we play the game on a STAGS date so that other members can see it as they never get to see the "closed door" events we run, im still a little worried about us taking up room in the hall though, however we should have enough tables for us and the others i would have thought and i suppose on the day if there were several of us playing on seperate tables we would only be taking up the same room, so if we can should we play on a STAGS day? opinions please...oh yes any one got any uniforms? :D
I am NOT dressing "up" (?!) to play! :D I suppose we could run some tables down the middle of the hall like they did for the big 40k game a few months back. The point about running it so that other club members can see is a very good one, I feel. The sheer spectacle and magnificence of it all might even convert some of them to Histerical Wargaming! :)
The Question

I will dress up if I can find a costume!:D I agree with playing on a STAGs day for the same reasons mentioned above, as it would be good to be able to convert some of the players who may not be aware that this sort of wargaming exists!

Wxcelllent idea, might even teach the young ones how we crusties can put on a good spectacle.
If it is a long game I might need my incontinence pants on.
Only jocking, might be interesting to see how far the Rebs can run along a long table, might even bring my stop watch.
Andy,
"Jocking"... Was that a Freudian slip after mentioning "incontinence pants" in the previous paragraph?! :D
Not only am I not dressing up, I'm also not growing huge sideburns or long beard for afore mentioned big battle.
However, I could be persuaded to emulate Jo Hooker's private off-field activities....! ;) :D
Ok here ia an update to this project, the proposed date now is 22nd July this is stil a stags meeting day, proberly play over three eight foot tables.

I'm cool about this happening on a STAGS day - but if you really want to 'engage' the other players then you need to think about how they can contribute/interact with the event. It's all well and good putting on the game and the current players having a good bash at each other, but how will that help the uninitiated.
Is there an opportunity to have a small 'side table' with a points match for the intersted to have a go at - games that can happen in an hour?
Appreciate that this may not be what you are thinking of, but consider what
the objectives are!
On a personal front ACW doesn't float my boat (The only real benefit of the war was Americans killing each other - instead of their Allies (Controversial point!)). But I'm always keen that we portray the hobby well and I know that you guys will do that.
Rob
Good points robo our main concern on the day wil be to show that ACW wargaming can be fun and can look outstanding (we hope), anyone on the day that has any questions etc we wil be glad to answer, side tables would be good in an ideal world but dont think we wil have the resources to do it this time around.
Hope its all worth while as the guys have put a lot of time and effort in so far, just got to get it to all jell now..thats the hard part:)

Alan,
No probs. As long as everyone is clear and what is happening.
Rob
looks like it should be a fun day:)
Dear All,
I am very sorry, but I have to apologise because due to a bereavement in my partners family, I will not be able to attend the big game this weekend.
However, I am still furiously painting and am looking forward to participating in the future games.
Once again, I apologise for pulling out at such short notice.
Robin.
thats completely understandable. we'll see you some other time.
hope all is ok for you..dont worry we will work around it these things happen:)
