A Tale of Five Gamers: Dark Elves (Abridged)

Apologies for the lateness of the article, it shoudn't happen again (the full 3 page article wouldn't fit on a single post, nor would the website upload the far too big word file. Moral of the story: Save the content for future articles:D )

"So why Dark Elves? Don't you play Skaven?" I hear you cry. Yes, I have terrorised all I survey with my Clan Skryre army for a good few years now (Ratling Guns!!!! Yay!!!) but I felt it was time for a change. And A Tale of Five Gamers was as good an excuse as any to do so.
With that in mind I went to the GW site in order to decide on a new force. Those who know me well will know that playing a 'good guy' force in any game system is anathema to my very soul (Seriously, the closest thing I do to a 'good' army is Tholians in Starfleet Battles, and they kill anyone who crosses their borders, and commited genocide on their planets when they first invad... colonised them.) So all nancy armies like High Elves, Dwarfs and the like were right out. Plus Chaos, after that travasty of a Codex in 40k, no longer appealed to me. Then I saw the Dark Elves page, and I knew I had found my new force.
Firstly they were evil, which was a good start, plus I found that they would be an interesting contrast to my verminous Skaven, which would force me to learn new tactics (No Ratling Guns... Nooooo!!!) relying on a small elite core rather than a tide of cr... unelite rats to carry the day.
So I went and bought the army book and looked through it in order to see if it was what I really wanted. It was, and therefore I started meticolously planning my forces, purchases by month, paint scheme, background and so forth...

Then I found they were releasing a new army book two months later...

NOOOOO!!!!

This changed everything. Now my force plan could have been made obsolete and illegal before I'd even bought it.

The Question

So, with my original plan out the window, I had to find a way to tread water until the new army book showed up. Looking through my book, I decided to buy two boxes of Warriors and a Sorceress, as there would be no possibility of these basic troops being taken out of the new army book.(I hope...)

Purchases:

2 boxes of Dark Elf Warriors (£36)
1 Sorceress blister (£6)

Total: £42 (£8 left for future purchases)

Background of my army (abridged)

Basically, my Dark Elves hail from Karond Kar, which is where all the Dragons, Manticores and so forth are trained. I chose to base them in Karond Kar because I have yet to see an army themed around them (why not, they have GIANT BLOODY MONSTERS!) and I liked the concept of an army of monsters and their trainers going on slave raids and to war. (Bad Hydra, that slave's not for eating! That one is!)
My Highborn, Lord Marik Desade (Look, all my army commanders have a deriaitive of Mark as a name, Warlord Marco Lilenthal and Chaos Lord Marcus the Unchanging, step forward.) is the new head of his disgraced household and has been informed by Malekith that as his one chance to redeem his household, he must raise an army that will raid the Old World for slaves. If successful, Malekith will restore House Desade to power. If Desade fails in this task, he will prove useful to Malekith by being fed to Sulephon alive...

After totting up points, my inital batch of troops comes to just over 500 points, which allows for limited slave raids against the lesser races. I decided that the Sorceress would be Marik Desade's sister, Bernadeth Desade, who Marik hopes will die horribly in one of his households raids, as so to to prevent her making a power play against him.

I like the background, you play the part of a dark elf perfectly. Nice to see a manticore too, i will add one to my force eventually when i can figuire out how to make one (dont like GW model) although having one in 1000pts is ambitious....as befitts a dark elf :D
