Hello and welcome to Ash's PAINTING TUTORIAL!!!

right, with the new deamon book for warhammer and the demonic army i am doing, i thought i might as well start here...

so this is what i have created so far

http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m102/legola33/paintings/Demonicmage1.jpg

as you can see, i have mounted her ontop of a 25mm square base,
using a small rock from the garden (washed of course) with some smaller "slates" from the hero base kits GW did, and also one of the bone piles from a similar kit, nicely mounted up ontop of each other untill i was able to place the reaper model ontop at the right angle, i filed some of her armor off and worked on the breasts to make her topless "perfect for the slanneshy feel", then with some PVA glue i covered the base and suck it into some sand (with some slightly bigger then sand rocks) any bits around the base will be filed/wiped off at a later stage.

At the moment she doesnt look all to demonic, so im going to do some green stuff on the hair, and mabey add a few more features.

using some green stuff, rolled up with your hands into long thin strips, then break apart with your hands into slightly longer then her hair length strips (technical term) you can now start work!, right get a scuplting tool, something like a pin, blunt knife, what ever you want thats fine and small but hard, cover the tool with water (to stop it sticking) and place the hair strip at the top of the head and squish it in, so it becomes stuck, then start to work down the hair molding it into the hair, contiue to do this, to make the ones that stand up, just flick it up with your tool and sculpt what ever you want... not very hard at all...

always do the hard to reach areas first... so this means the eyes and skin, to do a demonic white/purple tone skin... use the colours white(skull white) and purple (lich purple), start with a full black (choas black) base coat... (spray can or paint on thinly), then after that do a full coat of purple, wait to dry then do a 75% purple to a 25% white mix and do blocked areas, add more white and so smaller areas untill happy, then get a purple wash (add about 75% water) and then cover the darker areas and while its wet work ontop of it with the white, get a thin brush and work with the purple to do the eye areas and tattos.
(for the eyes i blocked them in with a pink and then added white highlights)

ok now the skin has dryed, we can get to work with other areas, the hair is fairly easy, using a combination of white(skull white), Blue(ice blue), purple (lich purple). using purple as a base coat, work up with a 50/50 ice-blue to purple mix untill just ice blue... getting more and more smaller... then highlight with a blue/white mix then topped of with a pure white hightlight.

and do the same on the arm, just dont use any white... and then add white dots.

at this point i wanted to do the base (beacuse of drybrushing goes everywhere) so i started with a black base coat, then worked up with a dark grey, deep drybrush, then added white to the mix doing lighter dry brushes as i went, dont go over a 80% grey to a 20% white... unless you really want to, it looks more realistic... the skulls were done the same as the pleasure seakers, dark grey drybrush, with white drybrushes topped with a white painted highlight.

after that i filled in any large gaps with PVA glue and some small splodges *dont go over the top beacuse it will be alot bigger then the amount of glue you put down* and dunked the whole thing into a bag of static grass (get some good quality stuff, not bright green fileing beacuse it looks naff) and blow very hard upwards (another technial term) and thus all the grass is now pointing upwards, then let to dry, once dry pick off any grass on skirt of the base and then go over it with a nice layer of choas black to make it dark again, (after all that dry brushing and glue its a bit manky).

right in these frames i have finished all the fine items, such as the pouches / shoes / arm bracelets and belt.
with the shoes and pouches i kept them pink, so started with a purple and worked up to the pink with a 50/50 white/pink finishing highlight, with the belt i used umber and worked up with the white adding a bit more each time i highlighted it untill happy, with the rest i used umber as a base coat, then orange/umber and a secondary base coat then worked up with orange then added in aprocot and finishing highlight 50/50 aprocot/white.
As you can see the hair isnt done yet, but im getting there...
The robes around the legs were done with a 50/50 black/blue mix as a base coat, then using the blue with a bit of water i layered up very largely where the light would go, then using the blue from the lid worked up while it was still wet, then adding in ice blue then adding in white, (if you get to thick you might take of lower layers... if this happens wait for it to dry then use the tone lower then work up again) untill you get what you want... if you dont like it do it again!, nothing is stopping you from covering the whole thing with paint and starting again... unless its your second time then you might just want to remove the layers of paint.

ok from where i left off, the cloak was done in the same style as blue robes, just using purple as a undercoat, and pink/white highlights, also the staff was done like this as well as the sword, the gem was done with a purple underlay, then working up highlights as i went down and finished with a black tip, then i highlighted the edges with white then gloss varnished it, after all of that i then added in a tentical (slanneshy!), i got it from the choas hand extras and trimmed it down, i painted it like the rest of the pink/purple (to keep it from clashing) then gloss varnished for slimey look...

and there you go!

one finished deamonic mage to send fireballs across the battlefield

the reason why i said not to post is beacuse i am limited to 6 pictures per post, thus meaning doing a tutorial means i might have to go over this 6 picture limit, dont worry i will cram it in this time.

"remember i update the post more then once so you might see changes from day to day untill it is finished, but now you all might as well feel free to post in this topic"
