Since Crusader Land Raiders are a version of a Land Raider. Can they be taken as Transport choices for a squad that could normally take a Land Raider? Or do they have to be used as a heavy support choice?

Normal land raiders take up a heavy support choice aswell as a transport so im guessing so does the crusader :/

As far as i know... Land Raider Crusaders take up a heavy support choice i'm afraid as theyre not an option in the dedicated transport list, although it's been aeons since i last played marines...

I'm pretty sure that a normal land raider as a dedicated transport will not take up a heavy support spot. Extra land raiders can be taken as heavy supports and so can the Crusader, but the only people who can take Crusadors as dedicated transports are Black Templars because it specifically says that they can take a Crusader. Basically if you're not doing Black Templars then it's going to take up a heavy support

No, 'Land Raider' in the transport section refers to THE Land Raider, and will not take up a heavy support slot on the force organisation chart if taken in this manner.

A 'Land Raider Crusader' is a different vehicle to the 'Land Raider' and therefore must be specifically stated in the options to be taken as such. This is how I understand it anyway.

Thanks for the answer chaps, I thought as much so I guess a crusader as a heavy choice is the way forward

okay new question.

If I take a terminator squad with a land raider transport can I deep strike them?

I know I can deploy the land raider away from the squad of Terminators but they have to be deployed together. But not sure if I could deploy the land raider as a transport whilst keeping my Terminators in reserve for a deep strike attack

That's a good question actually, but as far as I know Land Raiders can't Deep Strike, I beleive the only way they can be landed is via a Thunderhawk so I'm gonna have to say no again I think.

You can't be THE Biff...can you?

I could be the Biff.... who knows

see I know the Landraider can't deep strike but the Terminators that are in it could. So could I deploy the Landraider as normal but deep strike the squad

That way I could use a Landraider as a transport option and not a heavy support option and still keep the ability to deep strike the squad if I decided it was necessary

hmm not played 40k for a while now but that sounds 'wrong' im sure a unit must be deployed in the same manner as the the transport though not neccasarily inside the transport becuse both units should be deployed at the same time using the you go i go deployment that your supposed to use

eg i deploy an imperial gaurd squad with transport but want them outside to start the game they are all 1 unit so both squad and transport are deployed at the same time but in seperate places.
however deepstrikers do not set up and so the transport option is not deployed as it is an incomplete unit

the reallity being this is more a conservation of resources than anything else if the termmies are using the deepstrike they dont need to risk losing the holy and revereed land raider as it isnt going to function as a transport (i know 4 heavy options is nice but....)
again i may be wrong but these is how i remember the rule working

No, I'll have to look it up in the rulebook but i'm pretty certain units with transports cannot deep strike, and on point of deployment though a unit does not have to deployed inside the transport I beleive it must be deployed within 2 inches of it. I'll double check now

I only have the rule book that comes with the box set on me (the little one) But on page 81 under Deploy Forces it states

"In practice a single choice on the chart may be several units. It might be a squad and their transport vehicle (some other imeprial guard/tyranid examples) When deploying a single chart choice, the units that make up that choice may deploy separately from one another if you wish. When a single chart choice arrives from reserve, the units may similarly arrive separately from one another. Thus a squad does not have to arrive in its transport vehicle if you do not wish it to"

Maybe my interperation but I think that means I can deploy the land raider transport whilst keeping the Terminators back as a deep strike option should I deem it necessary
