Well on this day the Union final got its act together and made a great step forward in reuniting the Union.

Victory in the biggest battle to date Union forces cleared the field. Then Union left flank found the battle mostly empty so turned into the Rebel right flank and aided by the Vermont Regiments which were in left of the centre of the Union line. These Vermonts regiments also inflicted great damage on the rebel centre. The Union forces on the right of the Vermont regiments also caused the rebel heavy causualites although the fighting both on the far right and right of center seemed more closely fought just than on the left centre of the field.
Union forces took all 3 tasks asigned to them.
1/Turing the flank at Harpers Ridge and taking and holding(actually advancing) from the high ground
2/Clearing the Rebel forces out of Town of Harperville Junction
3/Securing the river crossing and the Rebel left flank

In game terms a great win for Union but also a great turnout of all who took part with the loser(on this day) contributing as much to the game as the winners.

I have no doubt the Rebels will be back in force to try to revenge this defeat, but for now the Union flag flys over the latest battlefield.

I have re-read the rules - i was very puzzled by what appeared to be a 3 way punishment for the tactics i'd used - no wonder i was getting creamed - because we were doing it all wrong.

There seemed to be some confusion:

i) Units that have doubled DO NOT count as having moved when firing in the normal phase - so they don't drop 2 tables - unless they've moved again in the normal move phase.

ii) Units use their BASE morale NOT their COMBAT morale for maneuvers (except charges) and firing - so they can still do option 2's i.e. split moves - namely 1/2 move and fire or change formation and fire or move 1/2 and change formation - even if they drop down to 3.

Obviously this doesn't affect rolling crap dice but i was puzzled why i couldn't do anything when i got into range of the enemy except stand there.

So if feel a rematch would only be fair :D

Got to read those rules over and over its a diffrent way of doing things...problems are on the day its hard to keep an eye on everyone and what they are doing so alot of the tihings in the rules are very subtle, one problem was that many players that day had realy only played 1-2 games and as i said 8 players is a lot to look after rules wise, however it was stil overall a very good day i felt:D

Well I'd like to say a big thankyou to everyone involved yesturday what a fantastic acheivment to have so many painted models on the day , shame about the result though dam Yankees we'll whoop yer next time for sure . Well my boys from Louisiana certainly had a tough time but we gave as good as we got but sadly we had to retire from the field , so when can we have a rematch ? for our Southern pride was dented but not destroyed and Weat's Louisiana " Tigers" whant to restore there honour .

Pardon me if I am wrong, but in every game we have played units with morale lower than 5 cannot use the split move option, if this is not the case why do the rules clearly state that units at 5 or below cannot split move, and those units that do split move fire at a 2 tables penalty if this is not the case then we have all used this version since we started the playing, I will liase with Alan at the weekend to clarify after I also have consulted the rules, but as I see it there has never been an issue at any other game we have played, and all forces deployed have had the same disadvantage or perhaps our interpretation of the rules is incorreect, we will have to clarify this.
Overall a good game, but I would have liked someone to fight, perhaps next time, but the table looked great and I think everyone enjoyed the game.

Gents,

As a casual observer just a little well done - the game certainly looked great and seemed to get deserved attention. I know the effort that goes into producing a decent quality army and a deadline often helps!

Whatever the outcome it looked good and was a great advert for the art of the possible.
