I have been asked to post some of the "game play guide lines" that myself and andy have been using when playing our games of Iron Brigade, these are things that we have found useful when playing to help us recreate battles and have enjoable games, they have also helped with the presentation of our games.
No unpainted minatures to be used in battles, especially on the larger battle days as unpianted minis look very bad on pictures and lower the overall presentation of the game, also no "sub standard" miniatures are to be used in games, in other words we only use miniatures deemed "compatable" with what is already used by players.
Armies to be constructed if possable from acurate army lists as per order of battle 1863 period around Gettysburg is good.
Union Brigades to be 3-7 regiments in total with each regiment numbering from 18 to 32 men and no more.
Confederate Brigades to be 3-5 regiments in total with each regiment numbering from 18 to 42 men and no more.
One battery of artillery per brigade or part brigade fielded please, union batterys of 3 models representing a six gun battery. Confederate artillery batterys of 2 models representing a four gun battery.
Cavalry to be one troop of twelve models per brigade or part thereof, if you wish you may subsitute one infantry regiment for another troop of cavalry thus allowing two troops of cavalry to be used in agame.
A Cavalry brigade maybe fielded with 3-5 troops of 12 castings making up the brigade.
Random base morale tables to be used for all games, period to use as default is 1863.
The above rules have been enforced mainly by the player group who play ACW so as to raise the overall standard of our gaming and so that the time and money spent is not wasted and returns us enjoyable and well presented games.
